Stem and Leaf: The Surinam Tirio boil a decoction of the wood and leaves which is rubbed onto skin rashes.
Stem: Liquid from the cut liana is dripped onto skin by the Surinam Akuriyo to kill parasitic botfly larvae. In Suriname, finely grated wood is used in a preparation with water for remedying diarrhoea.
Stem Toxicity: Crushed wood is used for a piscicide by the Surinam Tirio and French Guiana Galibi.
Leaf: Irritant, purgative, vomitive.
